Phil Ivey, Patrick Bruel And Satellite Winner Clint Richardson Shine At Monte Carlo Millions Poker Tournament.

mcm 2 (Monte-Carlo, Monaco) - Day One of the Monte Carlo Millions, the world's most exclusive poker tournament, was a nail biter as international poker pros and satellite winners squared off to see who will become the first Champion of this historic event. The Monte Carlo Millions, solely sponsored by PrimaPoker.com, is the first poker tournament to ever take place in the principality of Monaco.

As Day One closed, Tournament Director Matt Savage announced the top finishers. From the outset, Phil Ivey built up an impressive lead and maintained his position as chip leader, finishing with $187,500 in chips. After twelve hours of play, Mr. Ivey had lost just one pot to his rivals at the table. In second place is Juha Helppi with $111,000 followed by the very skilled PrimaPoker.com satellite winner, Clint Richardson, with $91,600, who won his seat on Bet356.com. French singer and movie star Patrick Bruel finished the day with $14,700 in chips.

In other MCM tournament news:
  • Giants in the sport fell early in the tournament, including Antonio "The Magician" Esfandiari, two-time 2004 WSOP bracelet winner Scott Fischman as well as Phil "The Unabomber" Laak, Scotty Nguyen and Dave "Devilfish" Ulliot.
  • Phil Ivey busted Australian bad boy Tony G, when Tony moved all-in on the turn drawing dead against Phil's set of fours.
  • Chris "Jesus" Ferguson, was ranked sixth in the chip count at the end of Day One, and was among the early leaders.
  • Four women continue to hold their own at the end of Day One, including Ruth Graham, Cecilia Reyes, Xuyen Pham and Renee Wexler who leads the ladies with $45,700 in chips.

Transatlantic Poker Cup
In the first US/UK showdown, the UK's Hendon Mob will duke it out against the US Poker Team comprised of Howard Lederer, Phil Ivey, Chris Ferguson and Andy Bloch. The teams will play four consecutive heads up matches to be determined in a draw later today. If matches are tied at 2-2, a fifth match will be held as a tiebreaker.

Out just before the dinner break were Ram "Crazy Horse" Vaswani and Barny Boatman. Last week Ram won the Irish Winter Tournament, bringing home $ 117,003 (€ 93,000). Joe "The Elegance" Beevers played a strong game on Day One, finishing among the top nine players with $63,000 in chips. Ross Boatman finished strong with $20,800.
