Phil Gordon is the Early Chip Leader at Bayou Poker Challenge at 2007 WSOP.

Phil Gordon WSOP 2007 With over half a million dollars at stake for first place and over $1.6m total prize pool, poker pro and celebrity Phil Gordon appears well on his way to acheiving his biggest cash ever in tournament poker. The popular author and television personality is the chip leader at the end of the first day at the "Bayou Poker Challenge", a World Series of Poker Circuit tournament, No-Limit Texas Hold'em poker event with Buy-In of $5,000 + 150. Phil enjoys a sizable chip lead of 1,167,000 over his closest rivals - with two days still left to play in the tournament. Harrah's New Orleans is hosting the final stop of the World Series of Poker Circuit season, which concludes on Wednesday, May 23d.

Mr. Gordon first appeared at the final table of the World Series of Poker championship event in 2001. However, he is perhaps better-known for his contributions as a writer, teacher, and television analyst in recent years. Phil Gordon penned "The Little Blue Book," a best-seller and primer on poker (a sequel to "Phil Gordon's Little Green Book"). He has appeared in several instructional poker videos. He was also the host of the BRAVO channel's "Celebrity Poker" during its first two seasons. Asid from poker and writing, Gordon is even more commited to his tireless charity work. He co-founded "Put a Bad Beat on Cancer," which raises money and public awareness for cancer research.

The top prize will pay the winner $516,801, second place finisher takes $266,736, 3rd place winner - $133,368... A total of 36 players will split prize money of the Bayou Poker Challenge totalling $1,667,100. The 9 finalists will compete for the first prize of over a half-million US dollars. The final table Bayou Poker Challenge will take place at Harrah's New Orleans on Wednesday. Among the other participants with high chip counts are David Fox (400,000), David McLeroy (384,000), J.D. Estilette (377,000), Lou Esposito (326,000), and Clint Schafer (326,000).

One of the most exciting recent developments in poker and high tech is coming to the World Series of Poker Circuit. WSOP-media partner Bluff Media is covering the final table at the Bayou Poker Challenge, a World Series of Poker Circuit event. On Wednesday, May 23rd, viewers will enjoy the rare treat of watching a high-stakes No-Limit Hold'em championship final table from start to finish.
