Poker News: PartyPoker.com Million IV, Party Poker, Million Tournament

March 29, 2005.

PartyPoker.com Million IV Tournament Champion Michael Gracz, 24, Scooped The $1.5 Mln First Prize.

On March 19, 2005, 735 of the world's finest online poker players and professionals met aboard a luxury cruise ship in the Pacific to do battle for a $7.4 million prize fund in the PartyPoker.com Million Tournament IV the biggest in WPT history and the undoubted highlight of the poker playing year.

The huge prize fund and the very high level of skill in the player pool ensured that the 6-day 2005 PartyPoker.com Million Tournament promised and delivered - dramatic action.

On the final day of the tournament play kicked off at 7:00 PM with just 37 players left from the original 735. Limits began at $8000 - $16,000, and by 8:20 PM Casey Kastle had doubled up to over $250,000 with pocket Aces giving him a total of 4 Aces on the flop, beating a full house (Aces & Queens).

By 9:30pm, the player count had dropped to 20, and blinds were $20,000-$40,000. Perry Meltzer held the chip lead with $920,000 (bear in mind that Perry qualified online for $32!). By 11:45 PM, that dream was a little closer for the remaining 10 players, with online qualifier Richard Kain racing to first place with an amazing $1,590,000 chip lead.

After five days of intense, nail-biting poker action, it was down to this one night: six players going head-to-head for the PartyPoker Million IV jackpot of $1,500,000. The contest climaxed in a gripping battle between Michael Gracz, a 24-year-old finance graduate, and Lt Colonel David Minto, a military rocket scientist 30 years his senior. Gracz emerged the victor, but both players walked away millionaires winning $1.5 and $1 million, correspondingly.
